I feel like there is a very big tendency in computer stuff to just say "X software is garbage" and move on and I even do it myself sometimes and I don't think it's very productive

Lots of popular software that has huge, glaring issues is also good in a lot of regards. And I don't mean "let's not pick on the poor programs", I mean "let's examine what works and what doesn't, why, and learn from it"

Example: "npm is garbage"

Like, yes, it's bad, it has some huge issues, but outside of software I feel like something being "garbage" has some pretty big implications?? It's at least not-garbage enough that everyone uses it

Again, I don't mean "stop demanding your software to work properly"

I just mean that the language we use to communicate about it doesn't seem very helpful
