Simon Crackingthecryptic is solving a crossword puzzle and that's uh

That's not... none of these solutions make any sense to me

@socks cryptic crosswords are wild

they seem really interesting but they're not logic puzzles by any stretch of the imagination and they tend to be extremely steeped in british culture, even if i knew all the trivia i needed i wouldn't know all the british words fo things

@monorail Yeah uh, it's... I don't know, I couldn't have come up with ANY of this myself

@socks it feels like extremely motivated reasoning but they always get the answer at the end

@socks i think it's very funny that they named the channel after them and then did a trillion sudokus

@socks is it one of those... what do they call them, cryptic crosswords? esoteric crosswords? the ones where they intentionally make the clues as opaque as possible, and expect you to use your knowledge that the clues are very opaque to help you solve it

@Felthry @socks the defining characteristic of a cryptic crossword is that part of the clue defines the word, and the rest of the clue is wordplay that constructs the word

they're really cool but i'm not good at them
